Adrien Broner: I've Been Here Before

Adrien Broner has a lot of load on hs shoulders coming to his fight with Adrian Granados on February 18th.

The former 4-division world champion is coming off one of his most turbulent years in 2016. In March, he was charged with felonoious assault and aggravated robbery in a Cincinnati bowling alley case. Then in July, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail for contempt of court. Later in the year, Broner's mental health became an issue following a 'suicidal' IG post. Inside the boxing ring, Broner fought only once, the first time in his career that's ever happened. Through it all though, Broner has managed to survive. Now he's trying to pick up the pieces again:

“I’ve got a lot on my plate, but I’m on a diet this camp. I’m doing things different. I’m getting older. I’m wising up. I always trained hard, but it is about being smarter. So, as you said, I do have a lot on my plate, I’ve got a lot on my shoulders. But I’ve been here before. So I’ll be OK."

2016 may have been his most trying year but it wasn't the first time Broner's been in and out of trouble. In fact, Broner's name has been synonymous to his ring nickname: The Problem. But because of his God given gift, Broner has been able to deflect most of his personal troubles and find success in the sport of boxing. Despite that though, he's never really been able to burst into true superstardom because of his personal issues. Now wiser as he says he is, he isn't taking any shortcuts. He just wants to reach his full potential as a prize fighter:

“Just training my ass off and ain’t taking no shortcuts. When you have the talent that God’s given me, you can do less of things and still win the fight. This time I’m really not taking no shortcuts and I’m trying to reach my fullest potential in the boxing game.”

Broner returns to action on February 18th against Adrian Granados in a 12 round 140 pound bout at the Cintas Center in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. Will it be a happy homecoming for Cincinnati's prodigal son?
