Luis Collazo Wants Shawn Porter Next

We said it was urgency against desperation. The man desperate for a win pulled it off.

Written off by many and called a 21% underdog at the Throwdown Scoring mobile app fans predictions, former welterweight champion Luis Collazo defied the odds, fan predictions and age to stop Sammy Vasquez in the 6th round of their PBc on FS1 headliner on Thursday night.

But more than his skill, Collazo needed every inch of his toughness in a bout that turned into a war as soon as it began. Vasquez tried to keep distance with his jab but Collazo always found a way to land his bombs, even if it meant absorbing punishment as he did. Throwdown Scoring post fight stats showed that Vasquez outjabbed Collazo but the latter landed more heavy bombs:

By the third, Collazo dropped Vasquez for the first time with a one-two near the ropes:

In the 4th, they made it clear that they didn't want the fight to go the distance:

The fight would go on that way until the 6th when Collazo caught Vasquez again with his hands down in the pocket. A right to the temple sent the Sergeant down almost motionless and for good:

Vasquez later admitted that he got lured into a slugfest and that he let his guard down:

For Collazo, it was a new lease on life. It's been three years since he's had a meaningful victory. He had been out for a year and a half and was coming off a knockout loss to Keith Thurman. He said he was going for broke. Only a handful gave him a chance. He proved them wrong. After the fight, Collazo called out Shawn Porter:

“You know, right now Keith Thurman is fighting Garcia. I believe Errol Spence is fighting Kell Brook. And I believe Shawn Porter’s the only one right now. He don’t have no opponent, and if he wanna dance, we could dance.”

Luis Collazo may be past his prime. But given how he outgunned a credible and younger fighter like Vasquez, it's hard not to want to give him a shot. What about it folks?
