Don’t let the punch stats deceive you. Those aren’t the main story lines of this bout. Knockouts are.

19 year old David Benavidez has knocked out all but one of his first 15 opponents. Twelve of those stoppages came within two rounds, including 9 in round 1. Only Azamat Umarzoda has taken Benavidez to the full route. But while Umarzoda finished the fight on his feet, he was knocked down in Round 1 and was blanked 60-53 across all scorecards.

On the other hand, Denis Douglin started his career like Benavidez, going 12-0 and knocking out 8 opponents in the process. But then Douglin won just four of his last nine bouts, suffering knockout losses to big names George Groves and Jermell Charlo along the way. Comparing level of opposition, Douglin has seen better foes. However, the young Benavidez has trained with some of the big names in the sport.

Benavidez briefly sparred with Gennady Golovkin before turning pro. He also spent time working with the likes of Kelly Pavlik and Peter Quillin. Earlier his year, Benavidez had the opportunity to train and spar with 168 pound champion Gilberto Ramirez during the latter’s preparations for his April 9 bout with Arthur Abraham.

Almost 60% of the fan predictions are pointing to a KO either way, with over 50% of them calling it a KO win for Benavidez. Only 11% of the fans think Douglin can pull off the upset, nearly half of them think it’s going to be an upset victory by KO. Having said those, this should be a fight you can’t blink on. It has the potential to end at any given moment with these two power punchers.
