Harrison-Dallas Ends in Controversial Split Draw

Dusty Hernandez-Harrison was set for a Friday homecoming at the DC Armory but it almost ended tragically as Mike Dallas Jr. put up probably the best fight of his life.

With the odds and fans predictions both against him, Dallas surprised Harrison by coming out with guns blazing. Dallas imposed an aggressive pace which forced his opponent out of his comfort zone. It wasn't only until Round 4 that Harrison started to find his mark but just as when he was getting warmed up, Dallas dropped the hometown fighter in the fifth round.

The second half of the fight was what made it controversial. Harrison managed to get away with rabbit punches and low blows. None was more evident than the consecutive low blows that forced Dallas to a knee in the eight. That sequence was called a knockdown and ultimately, it was what decided the outcome of the fight.

The judges had it 96-92 for Dallas, 95-94 for Harrison and 94-94 for a split draw. But if you subtract the 8th round knockdown gifted by the referee, it would have been at least a majority decision win for Dallas.

86.2% of the fans' predictions had Harrison winning. 50.6% of them thought he would win via decision. 10% of those who picked Dallas said he was going to win on points. None of them got it right except for the less than 1% who predicted this fight would end in a draw.
