CBS Exec to Freddie Roach: 'Let's Do It Again'

CBS chairman and chief executive Les Moonves reportedly bumped into Freddie Roach at a restaurant recently and told the powerful Moonves that Manny Pacquiao still wants a Floyd Mayweather rematch.

“Let’s do it again,” Moonves said, according to Roach.

“Can you deliver Mayweather?” Roach asked.

“Yes,” Moonves said, according to Roach.

Fkoyd Mayweather though, is 'happily' retired although twice recently, he teased about returning to fight MMA superstar Conor McGregor for a $100M. That rumor started when McGregor 'retired' from MMA several months back. It also started to die when the Irishman pached up his differences with the promotion and returned to headline the UFC's biggest event ever at UFC 202. McGregor is set to fight in another monumental event on November 12 at the MSG in New York. The bout will be one week after Manny Pacquiao attempts to recapture the WBO welterweight title against Jessie Vargas.

Many are dismissing Vargas as a walk in the park for Manny Pacquiao. And what if Pacquiao walks out of that November 5 date with his first knockout win since Miguel Cotto in 2009? Will Mayweather be perhaps 'awakened' from his retirement and consider giving Pacquiao the rematch he sorely wanted? Or will the Money Man stay true to his word of preferring to stay in the sidelines and be happy with promoting boxing fights and boxers?

Showtime's Stephen Espinoza said:

“Floyd’s been as consistent as he’s ever been. He says he enjoys retirement and promoting and won’t engage with us, even in a joking way, about coming back. So I’m not sure how to get the ball rolling in regard to getting him back in the ring, but I’m not going to give up.”

With interest from powerful people like Moonves and Espinoza, the talks of a rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao have resurfaced again. Question though is which fans still want to see it, especially after how the first fight went. Mayweather beat Pacquiao rather easily although Pacman claims a shoulder injury hindered him from doing his thing. And so on.
