Lucas Matthysse To Make Return in Canelo-Chavez Jr. Undercard

If you missed Lucas Matthysse , we've got good news.

Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez told ESPN on Thursday that the hard hitting Argentine will be making his boxing return in the Canelo-Chavez Jr. undercard. The former junior welterweight champion has been out of action after suffering an eye injury during his October 2015 loss to Viktor Postol. Said Gomez via ESPN:

"Matthysse is definitely going to be on the undercard. He's making his comeback. He's had his break. His eye needed to get better. He had the fracture, but he's been cleared. He's looking good, he's feeling good and he's been training. He's anxious to fight again."

Matthysse is best remembered for his 2014 BWAA Fight of the Year war with John Molina Jr. He is also known for his knockout wins over the likes of Vivian Harris, DeMarcus Corley, Humberto Soto, Ajose Olusegun, Mike Dallas Jr. and Lamont Peterson. La Maquina owns an impressive record of 37-4 with 34 KOs.

Added Gomez:

"We're looking at opponents for Matthysse now. He's had the break he needed and now he's excited to come back. He wants to go after a world title at welterweight and fight some of the big names. It's a strong division. He wants to win a world title and this is the start."

The name of Pablo Cesar Cano has been linked to Matthysse although Gomez and Golden Boy matchmaker Robert Diaz said they are still looking at several names. The equally hard hitting Mexican is coming off a November 2016 victory over Mauricio Herrera.
