Manny Pacquiao Says One At A Time

Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao is taking a break from politics to return to his basics-boxing. The Pacman challenges WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas on November 5 in a possible crossroads bout for the boxer turned politician. But when asked about his plans after November 5, Pacquiao gave nothing away.

In a press conference on Monday, Pacquiao said:

“I don’t know yet. My focus is Nov. 5. My focus is to my job and I’m only thinking about Nov. 5. I don’t know yet. One at a time. We can’t say yet right now. Let me see after this Nov. 5 fight.”

Of course, it's difficult to take Pacquiao's word, especially since it was just a few months ago when he announced his retirement from the sport of boxing to focus on Philippine poliltics. But here he is right now, two weeks away from another possible world title. Seems like Pacquiao talks like a politician these days, huh?

But he is correct. If we see the same Manny Pacquiao who knocked down Timothy Bradley twice last April, then we could perhaps see him fight at least one more time. Pacquiao didn't look a bit his age when he dominated Bradley for twelve furious rounds. Heck, Promoter Bob Arum is even talking about a possible Terence Crawford bout  ( again ) in April 2017, that is if Pacman wins decisively and if Crawford wins his next bout. That is another story though. Whether that happens or not is only secondary. What the world is waiting to see is if Pacquiao has grown old overnight.

We've seen it happen in any sport. Aging fighters grow old over night. The battle against father time is not winnable. The only thing you can do is prolong it. What version of Manny Pacquiao will we see on the ring on November 5?
