Jack Culcay vs Demetrius Andrade: Revenge or Mastery on Saturday Night?

It's been ten year since they fought as amateurs but up to this very day, WBA Super Welterweight champion Jack Culcay remembers the day he lost to Demetrious Andrade.

Culcay and Andrade represented their respective countries in the 2007 World Championships in Chicago. Andrade beat Culcay on his way to claiming the gold medal in his home turf. Culcay felt he got the raw deal of a hometown decision:

"Last time we fought at the Amateur World Championships in Chicago the judges clearly favoured the home fighter. They gave him point after point when in reality it was a really close fight for the first two rounds. He beat me and won the gold that year, but now it's my time for revenge."

Culcay hopes that revenge comes on Saturday March 11th when they meet again at the  the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle in Ludwigshafen, Germany for Culcay's WBO title. 'Golden Jack' won the belt with a decision win over Maurice Weber in 2015. He's since defended it twice, beating Denis Hogan on points in 2015 and stopping Jean Carlos Prada last year. On the other hand, Andrade is on the comeback trail after losing his WBO title due to inactivity. Boo-Boo is undefeated in 23 fights but has fought only once per year since 2014.

On Wednesday, the two fighters went face to face during a press conference in Germany:

With just a couple of days to go before the fight, both were confident of victories. Andrade said he is ready to give his amateur rival a reality check on his chin:

‘’On Saturday, you’re going to see the A-train at full speed steam rolling Jack Culcay. I beat him as an amateur, and now, I’m going to beat him as a pro. This ain’t going to be a three-rounder with training gloves on. I’m going to give Jack a reality check right on his chin!’’

Meanwhile, the champ countered by saying he was ready to derail the Andrade Express. He even joked at being a +900 underdog against Andrade's -2000:

“I am ready for any kind of check Demetrius is going to give me! I have been waiting for an opportunity like this for almost 10 years now. The odds for this fight just motivates me even more,’’ he says. ‘’Maybe I'll go to the bookies and place a bet. That way, I won’t only derail the “Andrade Express”, but also make some money!’’

Will Jack Culcay get his revenge? Or will Demetrius Andrade assert his mastery over Culcay?
