Abel Sanchez: Golovkin Already At 160

Gennady Golovkin is already at 160 pounds and we're still a couple of days before fight night.

On Wednesday, Golovkin's Trainer Abel Sanchez told reporters at the undercard press conference that his fighter was already at 160 pounds before yesterday's breakfast. Golovkin was already at 162 when the mandatory 7 day weights were taken. In comparison, Jacobs was 167.8 during that one week weigh-in.

During the final press conference a couple of days ago, it was noticeable that Golovkin was 'smaller' than Jacobs when the two stood side by side and came face to face.

So if Golovkin can be 'hurt' by an overblown welterweight in Kell Brook, he may be in serious trouble against a bigger puncher like Danny Jacobs who also has a two inch height advantage over him. That's what Jacobs and his trainer Andre Rozier believe is going to happen on Saturday night. They think that if Jacobs can catch Golovkin with the same punches as Brook did, the Kazakh star may find it more difficult to withstand them.

Abel Sanchez debunks the size disadvantage though. He said Golovkin is a naturally smal middleweight but finds his way to win with his big punches. As for Jacobs being much bigger on fight night, Sanchez had this to say, via Ring TV:

"I hope that Jacobs is light enough on his feet that he can stay away from this guy. Because if he can, then it’s going to present a challenge and be a difficult fight. But if he can’t and he’s too heavy, then I think it will go against him. But like I said, we all have opinions.”
