Keith Thurman: The winner of the fight is the man at 147

A lot is at stake when Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia collide in what is only the third unification bout between unbeaten champions in boxing history.

Not only will the winner keep his unbeaten slate and go home with one more belt on his waist, Thurman believes that he will be the placed in the spotlight of the sport. Said One-Time via Yahoo Sports:

"The winner of this fight is going to get a little of that spotlight priority. They are going to step up in the world of boxing. The spotlight is going to be on them a little more."

That spotlight used to belong to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, whose tenures in the division made it the hottest and richest in the sport. But Mayweather is now retired and even if Pacman is back as the WBO champ, the Filipino isn't keen on fighting the other champions right now. Hence Thurman reiterates that the spotlight should turn to  Saturday's winner then. Via Review Journal:

“The only legend left is Manny Pacquiao, but he doesn’t seem too eager to fight the top contending welterweights. So I feel the winner of March 4 deserves the majority of the spotlight at 147 pounds."

Aside From Thurman, Garcia and Pacquiao, there are two other recognized welterweight champions in boxing: WBA (regular) champion Lamont Peterson and IBF Kingpin Kell Brook. Despite several names called champion like him, Keith Thurman believes that the winner of his bout with Danny Garcia gets to become the new man of the division:

"The winner of this fight is the man at 147 (pounds, 66.7kg) and whoever has been the man at 147 lately with Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, has been the face of boxing."

The spotlight will be on Thurman and Garcia on Saturday night. And while the winner may not necessarily become the next face of the sport, global superstardom awaits him.

Will Keith Thurman become unified champion? Or will Danny Garcia deal him the first defeat of his pro career? Who will emerge as the new man at 147? Who will be boxing's next big superstar?
