Urgency vs Desperation in Tonight's PBC on FS1 Main Event

Boxing is a sport where one wins and the other losses. Unless of course if the bout ends in a draw. But what if both fighters cannot afford to lose the match?

That would be the storyline in tonight's PBC on FS1 main event between Sammy Vasquez and Luis Collazo who square off in a 10 round welterweight bout at the Horseshoe Tunica Hotel & Casino in Tunica, Mississippi.

While the two southpaws' careers may be pointing at different directions, a defeat for either may be too costly.

Former National Guard Vasquez was one of the division's rising contenders. He was an undefeated 21-0 when he was supposed to face Collazo in July of last year. But alas, Collazo suffered a calf injury and was forced off from the contest. He was replaced by 2008 Olympic gold medalist Felix Diaz, who in turn turned out a stunning 10 round upset of the previously unbeaten Vasquez. With Collazo healthy now, the two are set to fight at last but with the stakes now different.

A victory will get Vasquez back on the winner's circle and put him back in title contention. However, a defeat may pull him farther down the rankings. The former Sergeant is well aware of that:

“I’m trying to get back into the win column. Losing two straight would really damage my career.”

While he acknowledges what's on the line for him, Vasquez also realizes that Collazo may be facing the same dillema:

“If Collazo loses to me, it’s a wrap for him, so for that reason I know he’s coming to fight,”

Ten years removed from the time he held a piece of boxing 147 pounds title, 35 year old Luis Collazo is at the crossroads of a 17 year boxing career. Collazo has lost two of three and is coming off the second longest layoff of his career. Collazo knows it's do or die time for him:

“You take the bumps and bruises and keep moving forward. I’m hungry and eager to get back in there. … This fight could be the last of everything for me. I don’t just want to win this fight; I need to win this fight. I have no other options but that.”

Between Collazo's desperation and Vasquez's sense of urgency, what prevails tonight?
