Friday's Weights: Wilder 222, Washington 239

WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay WIlder tipped the scales at 222 pounds while challenger Gerald Washington came in at 239 pounds during Friday afternoon's weigh-ins.

222 represents the Bronze Bomber's lowest weight since the 219 he weighed in for his fight against Bemane Stiverne two years ago. Wilder is fighting for the first time since beating Chris Arreola last July 2016. The Tuscaloosan native undewent surgeries to repair a broken right hand and torn right biceps suffered during the Arreola bout. He will be making his fifth defense of the WBC belt.

Washington meanwhile is making his first world title fight appearance. The former USC football player was a late replacement for Andrzej Wawrzyk of Poland who was removed from the bout after testing positive for a banned susbstance. Washington's size negates Wilder's natural advantage over most of his previous opponens but it remains to be seen if he will be big enough to live in a huge moment. El Gallo Negro has promised to shock the world by knocking out the champion. But Wilder himself has promised to make a big comeback statement with an impressive KO win over his challenger.
